All that I am and believe begins with the fact that I grew up on the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados.
It all began with my mother tending her kitchen garden. We were fortunate to also have an orchard, which produced all of the fruits indigenous to the island, a goat and chickens. The only thing we truly ever purchased in a box was ice cream and that was only on the odd occasions when my parents did not make their own from scratch.
Not to I put too fine a point on my age, but I grew up in the bygone era when food was farm to table not because it was the latest “fashionable” craze but because that was the only way. My mother also used all natural, homemade remedies to cure everything that ailed us. I never took an antibiotic until I was an adult and only becauseit was more convenient and sometimes faster than taking the time to do things the “old-fashioned” way.
My passion for nutrition and a holistic lifestyle started when I was young, which turned into a dream of becoming a dietician, but life took me down a very different path for a while. I became a secretary, had a family and spent a number of years working in the insurance industry.
As I was busy raising my twin sons, I alwaysgravitated to alternative or natural remedies – the ones my mother used on me. I also became the “go to” person amongst my friends as they turned to me for ways to help them and/or their families feel better using natural cures.
After my sons were out of the house, I decided it was time to leave the insurance industry behind and, of course, that meant following the most natural path for me – alternative medicine. I enrolled in Trinity College and became a Certified Nutritional Counselor – I finally achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a dietician! I also earned a degree in Naturopathy.
The way we eat, think and live has changed dramatically over the years but it has honestly come full circle. Many people are shifting back to the things and way I was raised, so I created this blog as a tool to bring awareness and educate my readers on how they can make changes in their lives to bring balance to mind, body and spirit
